SHAOXING / KEQIAO SOURCING GUIDE

How to source fabrics from Shaoxing, China

A workable buying process starts with a garment brief and ends with approval of the exact physical article. Use SKU, specifications and a current sample to keep a shortlist, quotation and bulk order aligned.

STEP 1 · DEFINE

Describe the garment before choosing a fabric

Tell us whether the fabric is for a dress, blouse, tailored piece, lining or outdoor garment. Share a reference image as a visual direction, not as proof that a matching fabric has the same fibre, construction or performance. If an approved reference swatch exists, include its measured specifications and tolerance requirements.

Write measurable requirements

Specify target fibre content, weight in GSM, usable width, stretch direction, opacity, drape and finish. Mark which requirements are mandatory and which can vary.

Understand GSM

Define commercial constraints

Share estimated sample and bulk quantities, colour count, target price basis, delivery market and requested dispatch date. Ask for MOQ and lead time for the exact SKU and colour.

STEP 2 · SHORTLIST

Compare identifiable articles, not vague category names

Start with a photographed SKU and record what is actually documented. Our embroidery and lace, satin, tweed and functional fabric pages provide category starting points. A category label or image alone does not verify composition, current stock, finish or certification.

Check the source of every claim

For example, the photographed ZW-F5049 embroidery article includes recorded fibre, weight and width with a note about what still needs sample approval. Keep recorded data separate from development suggestions.

Use the same SKU throughout

Put the SKU on the swatch label, quotation request and approval note. If a substitute is proposed, treat it as a new article and repeat the relevant checks.

Search the fabric catalogue

STEP 3 · APPROVE

Request a current physical swatch

Compare handfeel, shade, opacity, usable width, drape, stretch and recovery against the intended garment. For embroidery and open fabrics, examine repeat, base, backing and motif placement. For water-repellent or waterproof claims, agree on the test method and target result before treating a finish name as a performance guarantee.

Ask the supplier to confirm sample availability, sample or courier charges, and dispatch timing before shipment. Review the actual sample under your production conditions and document an approval or rejection for the exact SKU and colour.

STEP 4 · CONFIRM

Quote and order against the approved article

Before a purchase decision, reconfirm composition, width, GSM, colour reference, MOQ, unit and currency for price, sample and bulk lead times, packing, shipping terms and any agreed tests. Ask whether the quoted fabric is existing stock, a repeat order or a development; the answer can change timing and minimum quantities.

If certification is required, request the certificate or transaction documents relevant to the exact product and supply chain. Do not infer OEKO-TEX or GRS coverage from a supplier profile, a fabric category or a general sustainability claim.

BUYER QUESTIONS

What to ask before sending an inquiry

Is there a fixed MOQ or lead time?

No single number applies to every SKU, finish or colour. Send the article reference and quantity, then request a current quote and delivery estimate.

Can I source from an image?

Yes. A garment or fabric image can help shortlist similar articles, but only the physical swatch and specification checks can confirm suitability.

Try visual search

Can I request certificates?

Include the exact standard and intended market in your brief. Confirm whether the specific article and transaction are covered before using a certification claim.
